WHERE TO START?

June 1, 2019 By sunrays

This was my excuse of actually NOT taking action and getting started. Like I haven’t posted in what seems like eons of time which looking at my last post date was eons.

When I moved to NZ in May of 2016, I had visions of keeping the posts up to date, but the weather and getting settled were my excuses. I mean moving from one country to another is a ‘BIG’ upheaval in anyone’s book…right!!!

We all have different reasons for why we use excuses but when all is said and done…don’t beat yourself up about it…everything is done in divine timing and when the time is right then everything will fall into place.

Having returned to Australia in September of 2018, more uncertainty of where to live, not having a car, how could I apply for jobs when I didn’t have a car?

What I have learnt and you may have too, it didn’t really matter that I didn’t have a vehicle because if the time is right for you, it will come.

We all ask for things in different ways. I’d been asking for an economical car to show up, didn’t know how or where it was coming from but another learning curve was just get out of the way, stop trying to control the outcome and just let it be.

As it turned out, my friend had contacts and a great little manual car showed up for a great price now known as ‘Nellie’.

Yes, I’m one of those people who gives their car a name.

Apple, Ginger, Kale, Lemon & Turmeric Juice

November 3, 2016 By sunrays

Apple, Ginger, Lemon, Kale, Turmeric Juice

I had some Kale I had to use up as it doesn’t last very long before it goes yellow so I came up with this combination.

As per usual with the Ginger and Turmeric, just adjust to your taste and same with the Lemon regarding skin on, skin off. If homegrown, I leave the skin on.

Kale I like to feed through with slices of Apple as I find it doesn’t get caught so much around the ‘juicing screw’ on my slow juicer.

I prefer to remove the leaves from the stalk as the stalk can taste bitter so I do this just by holding the stalk and pulling the leaves backwards. Comes off ‘easy peasy’. The stalks can be used in smoothies or in soups so as not to waste them.

I used:

  • 2 large Apples
  • chunk Ginger
  • 3 stalks Kale
  • 1 small Lemon
  • chunk Turmeric

Depending on your juicer, you may need to cut up the Apples to feed through the chute.

Yields about 300mls

Apples, Carrots, Fennel, Ginger, Lemon & Turmeric Juice

October 31, 2016 By sunrays

Apple, Carrot, Fennel, Ginger, Lemon, Turmeric Juice

Another great combination that comes out such a beautiful, vibrant orange colour.

Contrary to what I first believed about Turmeric NOT staining your juicer, I was wrong…it does!!!

Turmeric does have an acquired taste so you may like to start off with a small chunk.

I have been fortunate enough to have an abundance of home grown lemons so have been leaving the skin on but it’s up to you…skin on or skin off. You can try either way and see what you prefer.

I used:

  • 2 Apples
  • 3 medium Carrots
  • slice of Fennel (your choice for quantity)
  • Chunk of Ginger (your choice for quantity)
  • 1 small Lemon
  • Chunk of Turmeric

Depending on your juicer, you may need to cut up the Apples and Carrots to feed them through the chute.

Juice and enjoy.

Yield: approximately 200mls.

Ginger, Apples & Fennel Juice

October 28, 2016 By sunrays

Apple, Fennel, Ginger

Ginger, Apples and Fennel I have found to be quite a tasty combination.

Just play around with the amounts for what works for you as you may like less Fennel and more Ginger or the other way around.

If you aren’t used to using Ginger or Fennel, you can start off small and work your way up to larger amounts.

Although I have only two Apples in the photo, I did use three and definitely didn’t use this much Ginger. I do like Ginger but this amount would’ve blown my head off!!!

I used:

  • Chunk of Ginger
  • 3 Medium Apples
  • 1 Slice of Fennel (to your taste)

The yield for this was just over 200mls

You may need to slice up the Apples depending on your juicer.

Breakfast Fun

Breakfast Fun

Breakfast Fun with yoghurtBreakfast Fun

How often have you heard, ‘Don’t play with your food’!!!

Well, in this case, I really enjoyed ‘playing with my fruit’ to create my delish breakfast plate.

A selection of: bananas, kiwi fruit, oranges, apple and a dollop of coconut yoghurt with a sprinkle of LSA mix (Linseed, Sunflower, Almond) on top.

Just letting you know that there will be recipes coming soon.

I know when I first began juicing that I wanted to know the quantities of the produce going into the juicer so I have just been putting this together for you.

Also there will be some easy stir fry ideas that I’ve had a bit of fun creating in the kitchen. Simple but easy and tasty.

Some salad ideas so as not to get bored with lettuce leaves (rabbit food as it gets called), and dressings you can make yourselves.
